Wave Academy's Resilience Workshop Series was created to offer educational insights, tools and resources to help you get through the difficult times during the COVID-19 pandemic. With an emphasis on the power of understanding to help heal and grow, the Resilience Workshop Series blends teachings from psychology, science, and wellness practices. Our goal is to offer educational insights to bridge the profound inner learning that comes from aquatic therapy sessions to learning that you achieve at home. We are bridging therapy from water to land.
Workshops are hosted by a variety of Wave Academy's partners; from our multi-talented aquatic practitioners, to experts in the medical and healthcare industries, as well as partners from reputable holistic health and wellness organizations. We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming workshop!
By utilizing your own two hands, and the help of a few items from around the home, you will be able to decompress your nervous system and find a space of calm during these trying times. We will focus on balancing energy meridians in the body, begin establishing meditative focus, learn a sequence of simple facial acupressure massage, and utilize some creative tricks to rein in a potentially overwhelmed nervous system. Learning how to build a retreat within yourself will be a useful tool that can serve for years to come.
No previous massage experience is required. A quiet space with privacy and a comfortable chair will be necessary. You will be invited to make use of common things from around your home, and will receive a list of potential items to use after registration. Looking forward to seeing you there!
Tyson is a massage therapist, and practitioner for the Wave Academy, as well as an aquatic therapist at multiple world-renowned resorts in the US and Mexico. He also has a teaching certificate in Thai yoga massage and studied extensively in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

In this 50 minute guided journaling class, you will come up with a word or phrase that might courageously ignite the remainder of your isolation period or socially distanced space, whatever that might be. This will bring peace, clarity, and focus to your present.
You will answer questions, write words, do some short, guided meditations, and end up with a window and a mirror to your possibilities and a light for each present moment.
Bring three pieces of blank paper and a pen (index card and crayons or colored pencils optional). Be in a quiet, comfortable place with few distractions.

Rhythm, Repetition, Community…that is chant and it is an ancient practice. This mindful breathing session uses your body as the sound healing instrument. Mostly Sanskrit, with some English chants shared, sound by loving sound we will also enjoy some quiet times in between chants.
Chanting is a magical way to clear your mind, body, and heart and set the stage for a nourishing “silence." As the sun is to the moon, an "in breath" is to an "out breath" sound is to silence. No experience is necessary for this easy practice of chanting, in Sanskrit or English. Then there is the delightful practice of “being” in silence after each chant. One often ends up being compassionate with yourself and with others following this practice.
Jill Thiry, MBA, is a Rancho La Puerta guest experience administrator and Club Change™ founder. She spent decades in the high-tech publishing industry prior to and during her initial visits to the Ranch 18 years ago. Now, in her seventh year of teaching at the Ranch, she is leading these classes on Zoom from her home in Imperial Beach, just north of the Tijuana border.
